December 23rd & 30th

Hey Folks,

I've been on the run a bit for the holidays--apologies for the late post. There was a new Christmas show on the 23rd and a repeat program on the 30th.

The Christmas show playlist is below...I grabbed much of this from itunes and other places without paying much attention to the cds on which some of the below are found. The Stan and Doug stuff is great...to this day my father plays this record over and over (and over) every Christmas.

1) Stan and Doug; Jolly Old Saint Nicholas; Yust Go Nuts At Christmas

2) John Prine; A John Prine Christmas; John Prine Christmas
3) Emmylou Harris; Christmas Time's A Comin'; Light of the Stable
4) Merle Haggard; White Christmas
5) Steve Goodman; Colorado Christmas; Unfinished Business
6) Dolly Parton; Joy to the World

7) Stan and Doug; Yust Go Nuts at Christmas; Yust Go Nuts at Christmas
8) John Prine; I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Clause; A John Prine Christmas
9) Peter Paul and Mary; The Marvelous Toy
10)Greg Trooper; Muhammad Ali(The Meaning of Christmas)

12) Stan and Doug; I was Santa Clause at the School House for the PTA; I Yust Go Nuts at Christmas
13) Loudon Wainwright; Suddenly Its Christmas

**The show on the 30th was a repeat from September of 2005. The entire show was dedicated to music from Uncut Magazine's cd featuring songs inspired by Bruce Springsteen

December 16, 2007

Hey All,

As I mentioned on today's show, I'm trying to put together a show full of folkish songs about places like bars, diners, barbershops, etc--the kinds of places sociologist Ray Oldenburg defines as third places. Please send anything that comes to mind to listentoyourfolks@hotmail.com Thanks!

The playlist for the 16th went like this...

1) Peter Ostroushko; Bemidji Blues; Postcards

2) Carrie Newcomer; Betty's Diner; Regulars & Refugees
3) Steve Goodman; The One That Got Away; Live Wire
4) Fred Eaglesmith; Milly's Cafe; Milly's Cafe

5) Emmylou Harris; Silent Night; Light of the Stable
6) John Prine; Christmas in Prison; Great Days
7) Emmylou Harris; Light of the Stable; Light of the Stable

8) Eric Anderson; Eyes of the Immigrant; You Can't Relive the Past
9) Steve Earle; City of Immigrants; Washington Square Serenade
10) Tom Russell; Who's Gonna Build Your Wall; Wounded Heart of America

**I try to avoid direct political commentary on the show and blog, but something tells me Chuck Norris doesn't have all the answers when it comes to immigration. Just a thought, but...

11) Keith Sykes; It Just Don't Get No Better Than This; Let It Roll
12) Chris Knight; Bring the Harvest Home; Chris Knight
13) Nitty Gritty Dirt Band; Keep on the Sunny Side; Will the Circle be Unbroken
